Biography
Hello there! My name is Jennifer Schwartz and I am a Graphic Design student at the University of Indianapolis. I have been attending the university for three years and it has given me a great opportunity to be a part of an amazing art and design program and to also be a part of a community of friendly, outgoing, and caring people.
I grew up in South Bend, Indiana in an area called Granger. I started my education at Prairie Vista Elementary school where my love of art began. I kept that love of art throughout Schmucker Middle School and Penn High School. With the love for art starting at a young age, it began to flourish to design when I got to high school. Art was a stress mechanism for me when I was overwhelmed. I always found myself coloring instead of playing outside with the other kids. I wasn't much of an outdoors girl when I was younger, which unfortunately hasn't changed that much. Now that I am older, I find myself at a computer more creating projects for school, and also for myself and others.
I didn't always think I was going to be a designers. When I was younger, I always thought I was going to be the next Hannah Montana. Singing was my passion growing up. I didn't believe in grades for singing, so I started singing for fun after high school and have been enjoying it a lot. It wasn't until my Sophomore year of college that my roommate suggested that I take a voice class where you learn about the basics and sing infront of the class, which really helped my fear of performing infront of a crowd a lot. I may have been peeved at my roommate for a while for not telling me that performing infront of the class was part of the course, but I eventually got over it. The class gave me an opportunity to share my love of music with other people, it even gave me the opportunity for voice lessons, which has been going on for a year now.
My Influences of Design
My love for Graphic Design started my Sophomore year of high school. I took a Design class where I dicovered Adobe Photoshop for the first time. After taking this class it made me want to learn more about Design and the aspects of it, so my Junior year I took yearbook and continued on with it through my Senior year. I also took a Web Design class my Junior year and learned a lot about animation and the creation of web pages. It was my teachers that influenced me to pursue Graphic Design.
The type of design that I like working with is typography and branding. I love creating something from scratch and building up from it. Being able to put my own creativity and imagination to a design is what I enjoy the most of my work. I like to keep my designs minimalistic because I do not like clutter. Having too much on a design just does not represents me or my work.
